"Should I upgrade to 16GB?" is a daily question at our counter. The answer depends on one number you can check yourself in 30 seconds.
Check your actual usage first Open Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) → Performance → Memory during your normal workload. The verdict: - **Under 70% used:** RAM is not your problem — an SSD upgrade will help more. - **70–85%:** borderline; upgrade if you're keeping the laptop 2+ more years. - **Above 85% with committed memory maxed:** yes, upgrade — you're paging to disk and everything feels slow.
Who genuinely needs 16GB in 2026 - Chrome power users (20+ tabs = 6–8GB alone) - Developers running IDEs, Docker or emulators - Video/photo editors - Gamers — modern titles ask 16GB as standard
2026 upgrade prices (fitted, at Xigox) - **8GB DDR4 module:** ₹1,500–₹1,900 - **16GB DDR4 kit:** ₹2,900–₹3,800 - **DDR5 modules:** roughly 30% more
One caveat: many thin laptops have soldered RAM — upgrade impossible, which is worth knowing before you buy your next machine. We check upgradeability free: bring the laptop or WhatsApp the model number to 7499761196.
