When a laptop won't turn on, most owners fear the worst. But on our Virar repair bench, the actual causes rank like this — cheapest first.
1. Dead adapter (₹700–₹1,500) The most common cause. Test the adapter LED or try a known-good charger before panicking.
2. Broken DC jack (₹500–₹1,800) If charging only works at an angle, the jack's solder joints have cracked. Same-day fix.
3. Failed battery (₹1,500–₹4,500) Some laptops refuse to start on a deeply-failed battery even when plugged in. Removing the battery and starting on AC confirms this.
4. RAM contact (often ₹0–₹299) Oxidised RAM contacts cause a black screen with fans spinning. A re-seat and contact clean fixes it.
5. Display fault (₹800–₹5,500) The laptop may be running fine with no picture. The external monitor test tells us in one minute.
6. Motherboard fault (₹999–₹6,500) Only after everything else is eliminated. Chip-level repair beats board replacement in price by 3–5x.
Rule of thumb: never accept a motherboard quote without step-by-step diagnosis. Ours is free — walk in at Datt Mandir Road, Virar West, or call 7499761196.
