Overheating is the slow killer of laptops — sustained heat above 90°C degrades the GPU, battery and board. Here's what actually works.
What doesn't work - **Cooling pads:** drop temps 2–4°C at best; they treat the symptom. - **Fan-speed software:** a dust-blocked heatsink can't cool at any fan speed. - **Undervolting:** helpful for enthusiasts, but locked on most modern consumer laptops.
What works: cleaning + repaste After 2–3 years, dust mats the heatsink fins and the factory thermal paste dries out. A full internal clean with premium paste renewal typically drops temperatures 15–25°C — we show before/after readings with every job (₹499–₹1,200, about 2 hours).
Habits that prevent it 1. Don't use the laptop on beds/pillows — blocked intakes are the #1 cause in our workshop. 2. Clean yearly; every 8 months if you live near a main road (Virar dust is real). 3. Watch for the warning signs: hot palmrest, loud fan, sudden shutdowns while gaming.
